AFROTC is designed to balance academic education, military training, and leadership development. It is divided into:
Classroom Instruction (Aerospace Studies Courses)
Focuses on Air Force history, leadership principles, national security, and military ethics.
It is taken alongside a student’s regular college coursework every semester. The class meets once a week for 50 minutes and is worth 1 credit hour.
Physical Training (PT)
Focuses on improving endurance, strength, and teamwork through exercises like running, calisthenics, and team sports.
Happens twice a week, from 6am – 7am.

Leadership Lab (LLAB)
Focuses on developing leadership skills and teaching cadets everything they need to know before going to Field Training (FT).
Activities include drill and ceremonies, team-building exercises, and leadership evaluations. Happens once a week and is 2 hours long.

Above all, you are a student at UNC first, and Det 590 is here to support your academic journey in the way that best suits you.
